A custom Flora ceiling and wall installation for the spa reception at Fairmont Grand Del Mar, San Diego, commissioned through Kevin Barry Fine Art.
The brief called for a ceiling piece that would set the tone for the spa experience from the moment guests arrive. Soffi designed and fabricated a large-scale suspended Flora canopy, approximately 86 inches in diameter, with individual hand blown glass Flora forms suspended at varying heights on brushed brass rods within a circular canopy structure. The glass was fabricated in a custom blush and warm peach palette, the organic forms catching and diffusing light softly across the reception space.
Each Flora element is individually blown, meaning no two pieces are identical. The composition was laid out full-scale on the studio floor before shipping to confirm placement and proportion against the architectural drawings.
