Two wall-mounted fused glass panels for the entrance pavilion of Toscana Country Club, Indian Wells, California, a luxury private golf and country club community in the Coachella Valley. The commission was coordinated by Altevers International.
Each panel measures 28″ × 52″ and depicts an abstract interpretation of the surrounding Californian landscape; rolling fairways, desert terrain, mountain ridgelines, and sky, rendered in layered stained glass sheets and glass frit, kiln-fired to create depth and texture that shifts with the light.
The design process began with original digital sketches developed in collaboration with the client – two compositions titled “Desert Wave” and “Mountain Wave with Abstract Plant Detail”, which served as the blueprint for the glass colour selection and layering sequence. Each colour was chosen from a hand-fired sample palette, then applied by hand in layers before firing.
Unlike Soffi’s blown glass work, these panels are fused glass – a process where glass sheets, frit, and powders are layered and melted together in a kiln. The result is a surface with the richness of a painting and the permanence of glass, suited to the outdoor setting at Toscana’s entrance.
